Last night, I woke up at 2:00 a.m., in the recliner in the living room, holding E (who was sleeping). I have no memory of getting her from her bed or deciding to bring her into the living room. And I have NO IDEA when or how we got there.
I am so super freaked out. I assume I was sleepwalking, which I have never done before in my life. But what if I hadn't just come sit in the living room? What if I had tried to do something else and accidentally hurt E? I can't even let my mind go there because it is too terrifying and upsets me too much.
Has this ever happened to anyone else? Can I do anything to keep it from happening again? I am so freaked out right now.

Oh that must have been scary! It is possible that you are just so overtired from lack of sleep that you don't remember what happened. I remember in my residency days the exact same thing would happen. My recommendation is obviously a night of good sleep which I know is extremely hard to come by!! One thought - and I recommend it only b/c when my husband did it for me it was literally the nicest thing ever - could you get away to a hotel for night? I did that after my last day of residency and it was glorious. Now granted my husband was used to giving our son a bottle of pumped milk when I was away on call shifts so he treated it like a call night and Henry was used to that, and I'm not sure if you've ever had to be separated from E at night or even feel comfortable with it (and it's OK if you don't!). It was just a really great way for me to recharge the battery, and it sounds like you need it!!
ReplyDeleteOh my god how scary!! I'm sure you were just too tired to remember since you don't have a history of it! You can always call your doctor and ask if its normal if you are still freaked out!
ReplyDeleteThat's scary. I think you might have been too tired and your brain might have done what you usually do if E was crying. Did DH hear E cry when you got up to get her or did you just get up to get her while she was still sleeping and rocked her?
