Teething, Dairy, and Sleep Plan: Day 17

E has had quite an eventful 24 hours.

We've discovered a possible reason why her sleep had regressed these past few days... She's been growing FOUR molars!  We knew she had been teething, but last night discovered she has not one, but two, molars popping through!  And she has two more that are so swollen they will surely erupt any day now.  Poor girl!

Also... it seems she has been "dairy-ed" again.  Her little stomach is so upset.  I feel SO bad for her, and don't know how this could have happened again.  Since the great dairy-carrot incident, I have read every label of every food product to pass her lips.  I have a list of the names of "hidden dairy" ingredients in my phone to check against ingredient lists.  We haven't eaten in any restaurants, where she may have consumed questionable ingredients.  The only thing I can think is that she must have eaten something at the Superbowl party we went to, even though I was the only one to feed her and asked our friend (the host) about dairy in all of the food before giving her anything.  I just don't know what else I can do, short of not letting her eat anything that I haven't read the ingredients list of or personally prepared myself.  But I can't let this keep happening... Other food-allergy sufferers, how do you handle this?

On a positive note, E slept from 8:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m., uninterrupted, last night!  SIX WHOLE HOURS! Then she only woke one more time before waking up for the day around 6:00 a.m.  WHOOHOO!!!!!

  1. Boo! Teething and sleep plans do not go well together! But, I'm glad you're see some progress. If you dont mind using meds, I would give Tylenol before bed and see if you get better results.

On the food allergy side: Bring your own food for E. The hostess may have thought it was dairy free, but a lot of people don't realize that casein or whey is actually dairy, they just assume since its not covered in cheese that its "dairy free." Henry has a milk protein intolerance and is finally getting to a place where he is able to eat some hidden dairy without an issue. However, when he was younger we had to be really careful and it was just too hard to expect people to really accommodate him. Those fruit and veggie squeezies have really become a lifesaver for us in those situations.

  2. Awesome! 6 hours feels like an eternity right! A has molars coming in too and we have preemptively given him Advil before bed in addition to teething gel and teething tabs. I like the Advil bc it helps swelling. I don't like to do it a lot but last night we didn't and he was up for 2 hours so unhappy bc of his teeth! Good luck tonight!

  3. Funny you both should suggest meds, because once we saw her new teeth/swollen gums last night, we did actually give her some Motrin. I don't like to give her too much medicine, but I think we will be using it some more in the future! ;-)

  4. Those damn teeth. They suck. So nice to have a reason why she isn't sleeping though! Good luck getting through it....

  6. That is great! SIX whole hours!!

I'm sorry about the food allergy. In my case, I just had to narrow it down to what I had eaten that upset my stomach then I just eliminated it from my diet. Much easier said than done though. It took us several tries to figure out what exactly I was allergic to and within those several tries I suffered from acute pain. Once we figured it out it was easier.

Teething is just horrible! Wish it wouldn't hurt them so much :(
